Manual Machinist

Manual Machinist is responsible for creating quality parts produced on various machines such as but not limited to lathes and milling machines and general shop equipment according to company specs. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting shop drawings to determine production processes, requirements and inspection of quality parts.

Job Description

  • Study job orders, read and interpret engineering drawings to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
  • Set up and operate machine tools to perform repetitive machining operations, such as turning, milling, drilling, boring, planning, honing, broaching, grinding or other machining operations.
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices.
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor.
  • Work safely at all times and maintain a safe work area.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating machines such as lathes and milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Good level of manual dexterity and hand / eye coordination.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
